Fun Musical Activities to do with your child!

With Covid-19 affecting all of our lives and our little one’s might not be able to get out their energy and creativity. I know that my son is bouncing from the couch, to eating, to his swing and then exhibiting melt downs. He is used to running around, jumping on the trampolines, going to the park, going out to eat, music class and more. He brings me his shoes daily as if to say “Hey don’t you love me anymore, take me out! I try to be as creative and engaging as I can with the perimeters that are given to all of us but sometimes that does not do the trick because he needs that sensory input daily.

Well to help with ideas for fun interactive time with out little one, here is some great musical ideas.

Music and Sound

Children learn and explore so much through music. A simple activity that will continue day after day to be engaging is making your own musical instruments and playing fun music and dancing like nobody is watching with your child. Here is some really easy musical instruments you can make:

  1. Plastic Egg Maracas: You will need a plastic Easter egg, 2 plastic spoons, tape, glue and some dried beans. Put the dried beans in the egg, glue or tape the egg shut. A hot glue gun would be great if you have one on hand or you can get one be clicking on the link. Get two plastic spoons and tape them to the egg concave side in and also tape the spoons at the bottom. Now you have a great instrument for your child.

2. Kazoo– You can finally use those toilet paper rolls for a fun project that will help your child explore sound and optimize their creative sides.. To make this instrument you will need a toilet paper roll, markers, colored paper or other items to decorate the Kazoo, wax paper and a rubber band. Cut a piece of wax paper and place it over the end of the toilet paper holder and place a rubber band around it to keep it in place. Have you child decorate the outside of the Kazoo with whatever craft items you have. Poke a hole in the side of the tubing. Then have your child place their mouth over the open end and hum, make random sound or sing silly songs. Put some music on and let they children experiment with the sounds of their voices.

Fun Homemade Kazoo

3. Homemade Tambourine– For this instrument you will need a paper plate, jumbo jingle bells, (so your child does not choke on them) ribbon or string, glue and cotton balls. Fold your plate in half. Punch holes around both sides of the folded plate. Tie your string or ribbon around the jingle bells and through the punch hole. Don’t tie too tight because we want them to be able to jingle. Stuff the cotton balls into plate to make it nice and soft. Glue the edges together. After that dries shut let your child decorate the tambourine with paints, crayons and markers.

Once you have your instruments made have a family dance party and tag @Sensory Towne in your post! Lets spread some positivity!

Everybody enjoy these activities and stay safe with your families! Do something to add value to someone’s life everyday!

We miss you and can’t wait to have some fun when we reopen!

This birthday party was the most fun! The staff was fantastic.  I cannot give them enough credit for how amazing they were.  The made sure we were taken care of.  They handled prepping, clean up, make sure all guests plates and cups were full.  We did not lift a finger.  Miss Kimberly was engaging and sweet and has done a wonderful job with Sensory Towne. Best birthday ever!
